Six students from class 2A took part in the Speak Up – Act Out SUAO Drama Competition 2025/26, organised by the EDB NET Section. This competition challenges teams of four to six students to devise a 4–5 minute improvised drama based on a given stimulus, and they have just two weeks to prepare. It was no small feat. No scripts, costumes, props, or make-up are permitted—only two chairs and the students’ own creativity.

The event gave our students the opportunity to use English creatively and express themselves confidently on stage. But perhaps more importantly, they learned that drama is about collaboration, not perfection. As past participants have reflected, competitions like this teach students that “input from all members is crucial to a cohesive performance,” and that winning is not what matters most; having fun and growing together is what matters most. Our students certainly embodied that; they listened to each other’s ideas and built on them during rehearsals.

Beyond the stage, they also watched other schools perform and picked up practical tips on how to use space more effectively and build dramatic tension, which they can now bring back to future drama activities. They developed collaboration skills, perseverance, and empathy. These are values the competition explicitly seeks to cultivate.

I believe our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience because they were able to showcase their talent, be themselves on stage, and simply have fun performing. They proved that with teamwork and imagination, you don’t need elaborate sets or costumes to tell a powerful story. It was brilliantly performed.
